A Mother’s Love & the Gift of Self-Care
Honouring God’s Heart This Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a time to honour the love, strength, and sacrifice of moms everywhere. The Bible lifts motherhood as a reflection of God’s heart, from Hannah’s prayers (1 Samuel 1:27-28) to the Proverbs 31 woman who speaks with wisdom and grace.
Mothers reflect Christ in their love, forgiveness, nurturing, and guidance. Whether biological, adoptive, stepmothers, grandmothers, or spiritual mentors, each plays a vital role in showing God’s compassion to the world.
But even superheroes need rest.
This Mother’s Day, celebrate by not only honouring mothers but also encouraging them to care for themselves, too. Here are a few ways:
- Take a break and rest—even briefly.
- Treat yourself with something you love.
- Connect with other moms for encouragement.
- Practice gratitude to reset your mindset.
- Let go of guilt—self-care isn’t selfish.
- Prioritize sleep—it fuels everything.
- Speak kindly to yourself—you’re doing your best.
- Find joy in the present—even in the small moments.
And know that your feelings matter if Mother’s Day is hard for you, because of loss, longing, or pain. Be gentle with yourself and allow space to heal.
Let’s celebrate the gift of motherhood and the love that leads us back to God. May every mother be seen, appreciated, and renewed this Sunday.
